1 scOPE
This Standard establishes the conditions,procedures,equipment, and acceptability criteria for evaluating vis-ibility from powered industrial trucks. It applies to in-temal combustion engine powered and electric high lift,counterbalanced, sit-down rider industrial trucks up toand including 10 000 kg (22,000 lb) capacity.
Visibility is evaluated by using an array of lamps,centered at the theoretical eye level of a seated operator,and observing light and shadow areas on a vertical screenin specific locations around the truck. The light sourcearray simulates the normal range of position of the seatedoperator’s eyes with typical head movement. The lightand shadow areas describe what can and can not be seenby the operator.Traveling mode visibility is evaluatedwith the screen 4000 mm (157.48 in.) to the front ofand to the rear of the truck. For maneuvering mode vis-ibility, the screen is positioned at 1200 mm (47.24 in.)from the truck to the front.rear, and both sides. Ac-ceptable visibility is based on measurements of darkshadows cast on the screen in each of the test condi-tions.

4GENERAL REQUIREMENTS4.1 Test Facility
The visibility tests should be conducted in an areawhere all other sources of light can be eliminated andonly light from the light source array shines on the screen with a minimum of reflection off other surfaces.Thefloor area shall be flat and level and free of obstacles.A center line marked on the floor will aid in position-ing the truck. If the stationary screen is used, the centerline on the floor should be in line with the center line ofthe screen.
lf a movable screen is used, a set of lines can be drawnon the floor for all the tests on a given truck.Fig. 4shows the lines and the points needed to conduct all thetests without repositioning the truck.
General provisions for the two types of screens aregiven in Fig. 3, including optional suggestions.Whena number of visibility evaluations are to be done,themovable screen used in conjunction with the floor mark-ings will permit conducting tests in less time.
4.2 Truck Conflguratlon
Visibility tests shall be conducted on a lift truck withconventional front end equipment for load handlingforks. The evaluation shall be valid for a specific con-figuration. Significant differences in configuration (suchas various types of masts,external fuel tanks,counter-weights, cabs, etc.) will require a separate evaluation.The mast shall be tilted fully rearward up to a maxi-mum of 10 deg.The fork carriage shall be positioned ata height where the intersection of the load carrying sur-faces of the forks is between 100 mm (3.94 in.) and 300mm (11.81 in.) above the floor,Fig. 5. If the fork lengthexceeds 1200 mm (47.24 in.), the forks may be re-moved to conduct tests, but the height of the carriageshall be positioned as if the forks were installed.
